Dorla Gähwil: 2,500 items, open 24 hours
In the middle of the village of Gähwil, Dorla has stocked around 2,500 everyday items since 2025 – fully unattended, around the clock. Customers pay at two self-checkouts by card or TWINT. Beer and spirits are kept in a separate cellar whose door only opens after the age check.

Open at night too
When the other shops in the village have closed, the lights are still on at Dorla: anyone who needs milk or bread in the evening simply comes in – and pays at the checkout by card or TWINT.

Frequently asked questions
How does a purchase at the self-checkout work?
Customers scan their items at the kiosk. Bread, vegetables or items without a barcode are chosen from pictures on the screen. Payment is made at the payment terminal by card or TWINT; the receipt comes as a QR code or printed on request.
Is an unattended village shop safe from theft?
Technology alone can’t answer that. The checkout creates transparency: every sale is recorded, and stock levels show you where goods are disappearing. Access control opens the shop only to people who have identified themselves first. Cameras, store layout and signage are your decisions, to suit the location.
Can I sell beer and spirits unattended?
Yes, with an age check: the Stellard Age device checks the age on the ID and releases a door or fridge (CHF 1’890.– one-off plus CHF 29.– per month). It checks the age, not whether the ID is genuine – responsibility for the range stays with you.
What do I need before opening?
The hardware arrives preconfigured. You prepare your range with prices and EAN codes, the contract for the payment connection, plus power, internet and space for the checkout. Then we put the shop into operation together.
How much does a self-checkout for a village shop cost?
Plans start at CHF 99.– per month (Basis) – with stock and ordering it’s the Retail plan at CHF 179.–. On top of that comes the one-off hardware, CHF 5’090.– including age verification in the example above. You can build your exact quote online.
